FUNdamentally GOSPEL returned to Citygate Church in Beckenham for their summer concert on Saturday 13 July. Their uplifting mix of pop, gospel and world music drew a large crowd and raised £600 for Community Music In Action.

Choir member and charity trustee Phillippa Gillespie spoke about the recent CMIA-funded project with Whizz-Kidz which she had helped to organise and video footage of this fun-filled musical day was shown.

Thanks to everyone who supported the event as a performer or audience member, by taking donations on the door or serving refreshments in the interval, or by working behind the scenes to make sure everything went smoothly. It was a fantastic night and the money raised will go a long way towards funding other brilliant music projects in our local community.

Members FUNdraising Update

Several members of the charity have been busily fundraising for Community Music In Action individually over the past few months.

3 CITIES CYCLE RIDE
In May, CMIA Publicity Offer Gill Standeven, set off from the Olympic Park in Stratford and cycled over 340 miles to Brussels via Amsterdam. Her epic journey took four days (that’s a lot of miles per day!) and she averaged eight hours in the saddle each day, consumed her body weight in bananas and jelly beans but sang FUNdamentally GOSPEL songs all the way! We’re still counting her final total raised, but her aim was to raise enough money to fund an extra project for us this year and it certainly looks as though she’s on course to hit that target – thanks Gill! Check our her blog here to read the story of her journey or make a donation.

HISCOX FOUNDATION
Many thanks to John Edwards who secured a £250 donation to CMIA from the Hiscox Foudation earlier this year. John works for Hiscox Ltd, an insurance company committed to helping the communities of which it is part by supporting a range of social initiatives through the Hiscox Foundation, a charity funded by an annual donation from the Group. Any Hiscox employee can apply to the Foundation for support for a good cause, often local projects or charities in which they are involved.

PRICEWATERHOUSE COOPERS
Ed Gray has also obtained a donation of £200 to CMIA from his employers, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, in respect of their Matched Giving Programme. The programme affords the company the opportunity to donate a proportion of its charitable funds to charities chosen by its employees, boosting the funds they’ve raised through a wide range of activities.

It’s great to see members of the charity tapping into sources of income on our behalf and we are grateful to both companies for recognising CMIA as a worthy recipient of the support they offer to charitable and community initiatives.

FUNdamentally GOSPEL Spring Concert 2013

Despite the snow, an audience of 100 attended FUNdamentally GOSPEL’s spring concert at Christ Church Beckenham on 23 March. The event, which also featured performances by a workshop choir formed on the day, raised £575 for Community Music In Action of which a significant proportion was eligible for Gift Aid.

Choir and charity member Sarah Richardson was on hand to speak about the recent project at Glebe School on which she had volunteered.

Thanks to everyone who supported the event as a performer or audience member, by taking donations on the door or serving refreshments in the interval, or by working behind the scenes to make sure everything went smoothly. It was a fantastic night and the money raised will go a long way towards funding other brilliant music projects in our local community.

Community Matters

Community Music In Action was once again one of the charities selected for the Waitrose ‘Community Matters’ Fund in December 2012. Thanks to everyone who popped their ‘green tokens’ in our box, we received just under one third of the Beckenham branch’s monthly donation and will soon be receiving a cheque for £900. What a brilliant Christmas present!

Festive Busking at Princess Royal University Hospital

Members of FUNdamentally GOSPEL set aside last-minute Christmas shopping and spent two hours singing carols and other festive numbers at the Princess Royal University Hospital on the last Saturday before Christmas. As well as spreading joy and cheer with their dulcet tones, the choir raised £230 for Community Music In Action and established a relationship with the PRUH which we hope can be developed over the coming months. Watch this space!

FUNdamentally GOSPEL Winter Concert 2012

Moving to a bigger venue proved a huge success as FUNdamentally GOSPEL drew their biggest audience yet, rocking Citygate Church in Beckenham with their uplifting mix of pop, gospel and world music and raising a whopping £750 for Community Music In Action in the process. FG 2012 12 08 Citygate Church CHOIRMusic workshop facilitator Kim Perkins was also there to speak about the recent project at White Gables Alzheimer’s Day Care Centre which she had led.
